Highlighting Wolverhampton Art Gallery’s commitment to contemporary art, Courage is Stronger Than Fear showcases work by some of the most exciting contemporary artists of the moment.
Courage is Stronger Than Fear explores a range of issue based mixed media work by artists including Turner Prize nominee Richard Billingham, Helen Chadwick and Simon Norfolk amongst others. The works, which explore social and political themes in contemporary art, have been purchased as part of the Contemporary Art Society’s, Special Collection Scheme.
The Special Collection Scheme was set up 1998, and has enabled 15 museums and galleries across throughout England to ‘develop interesting and challenging collections of contemporary art, in response to their historic collections. By acting in an advisory role, organising studio and exhibition visits the CAS is able to ensure the staff at the gallery had the necessary skills to develop outstanding public collections of contemporary art in a regional venue.
Through contributions to the purchase fund, Wolverhampton Art Gallery was able to add to its collection works by international artists including Chad McCail, David Rayson and Erasmus Schroeter.
