Introduction to Family History Research
Posted March 29, 2019 10:30 am by admin under Exhibition Local History
A 6-week course designed for complete beginners and those who have done a little research but don’t know what to do next.
Participants will finish the course with the knowledge of where to find records and the confidence to use them to trace at least one line of their own family history back to the early 1800s. They will be advised on the basics of birth, marriage and death registration, and the census records, before moving on to military, criminal, employment, and many other records, which tell the unique story of each person’s family.
To participate it is not necessary to have family roots in the City of Wolverhampton or the Black Country, as the records are the same for all of England and Wales, and Scottish records are very similar. For those with roots outside of the UK this is a good starting place as, by understanding English records, it is then possible to move on to researching overseas.
