Craftsense at Bilston Craft Gallery

Craftsense at Bilston Craft Gallery

The permanent exhibition Craftsense presents outstanding examples of items skillfully manufactured in glass, leather, metal, ceramics and enamel in the factories and workshops of Bilston and the wider Black Country.

A particular highlight is the famous Bilston enamels, and over 100 beautifully decorated 18th century boxes are on display. These were used to contain personal items such as snuff and beauty patches or sweets (called bonbonnieres),

Each year a new selection of contemporary craft objects created in glass, leather, metal, ceramics and enamel is displayed in the gallery. These examples explore how skilled and innovative makers are using these materials today.

The Gallery’s large main exhibition hall shows between four and five temporary exhibitions of contemporary craft each year. Covering a range of materials, the exhibitions feature established and emerging makers from across the country, and further afield. The wealth of creative talent across the region is showcased in the First Floor gallery.

Visitors of all ages can get involved through varied family friendly and adult events and workshops.
