Volunteering – Next Recruiting December, 2018
Thank you for your interest in volunteering – we work with many enthusiastic volunteers aged 18 and above across our venues and the support of local people is much appreciated at Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Bantock House, Bilston Gallery, and the City Archives. Volunteering with us is a great way to meet new people and develop skills and confidence in an inspiring environment. Arts and Heritage is a competitive field so to reflect this, there is an application process for all volunteer roles.
Due to the high number of enquiries we receive, we are unable to offer volunteer placements to everyone who enquires so there is a recruitment process and suitable candidates are invited to apply. As a volunteer, you will be encouraged to participate in events and will have intermittent opportunities to progress to new projects and tasks, depending on the Arts & Heritage service offer and as appropriate to your interests and skills. Opportunities change periodically (to include for example; researcher projects, exhibition support and curatorial roles) but please be aware that the only role we will be recruiting to in December, 2018 is:
Wolverhampton Art Gallery
Visitor Ambassadors: Our volunteer Visitor Ambassadors support our Visitor Assistants, helping them to make our visitors feel welcome and find their way around the exhibition spaces and amenities. Learning about the collections/artworks on display and engaging with visitors are also part of the role. Some knowledge of art and art history is helpful in this role but we are particularly interested in applications from those willing to develop excellent customer service skills and learn about the our exhibitions as they progress.
Please note that visitor assistants are required to wear smart, presentable, black clothing and shoes whilst in the gallery and museum. Minimum commitment, 4 hrs per week.
Find Out More – Volunteer Drop-in Recruitment Sessions
Our next Drop-in Volunteer Recruitment Session will be in December, 2018, here at the gallery and the date of this event will be advertised on this page nearer the time.
Our Volunteer Recruitment Sessions take place approximately every six to eight weeks and provide an opportunity to discuss your volunteering needs on the day. Following initial discussion, interested and suitable candidates are then invited to apply and take part in a Volunteer Induction which takes just under one hour, and then start dates are agreed with each new volunteer. Volunteers are always welcome but we do ask that you are prepared to commit to a minimum of roughly four hours per week – however we very much appreciate the time that volunteers give and are always happy to be flexible to accommodate your needs.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering and we look forward meeting you during our next round of recruitment.
